Finally, the list of the best beaches in Lagos. I will start with Meia Praia and follow the coast westwards, passing through Ponta da Piedade towards Luz Beach.
1. Meia Praia (Beach)
With its expansive size of over 4 km, Meia Praia stands out as a beach that offers space for everyone. Unlike the cliff-lined beaches of Ponta da Piedade, Meia Praia stretches along the coast without the rocky cliffs, extending all the way to the mouth of Ria de Alvor.
Don’t miss the historical 17th-century fort of the beach that bears witness to the region’s history. Meia Praia is perfect for long seaside walks and relaxing sunbathing. If you prefer to escape the crowds often found in the small coves of Ponta da Piedade, Meia Praia is an ideal beach in Lagos to unwind and enjoy the tranquility.
2. Batata Beach
One of the main strenghts of Batata Beach is its proximity to the city of Lagos, making it incredibly convenient for visitors staying in the area. This allows them to enjoy the seawater just a short distance away from all the amenities and services available in the city.
An especially memorable event that takes place annually near this beach is the “bath of 29”, held on August 29th. Embracing a local tradition, many people gather there for a midnight swim. 😉 Why not join in the fun if you happen to be there during that time of year?

As a curious fact, there are galleries of tunnels that connect this beach to the one I mentioned before.

Dona Ana Beach is regarded as one of the world’s finest beaches, and personally is my favorite in Lagos. Nestled within a picturesque cove, this beach mesmerized me with its natural beauty.
The true standout of Dona Ana Beach is the breathtaking viewpoints perched atop the majestic cliffs that embrace it. From these vantage points, the beauty of this beach in Lagos is elevated to new heights.
5. Pinhão Beach
Pinhão Beach is a delightful beach in Lagos located in close proximity to Dona Ana Beach. Often regarded as an alternative when Dona Ana Beach gets crowded, Pinhão Beach offers a more intimate and tranquil setting for sun-seekers.
Nestled in a peaceful cove, this beach provides a cozy ambiance to enjoy the Algarve sun in a serene environment.
6. Camilo Beach
Although no longer a hidden gem in Algarve, Camilo Beach continues to be a true treasure among the best beaches in Lagos. Accessible via a long staircase, the journey is well worth it as you are greeted by a breathtaking setting. Prepare to be amazed by some of the most impressive rock formations found in Ponta da Piedade — they are truly remarkable!
At the top of the cliff, you’ll discover Camilo Restaurant, renowned as one of Lagos’ best dining establishments. Indulge in a delicious seafood or fish meal while enjoying panoramic views of the coastline.

Balança Beach, like Camilo Beach, is located in a privileged area of Ponta da Piedade. It is a natural marvel, surrounded by beautiful natural arches and rock formations. With no infrastructure, it retains its wild and serene character.
This beach also captivates marine fossil enthusiasts. Keen observers can spot traces of fossils on the cliffs, unveiling the rich geological history of this coastal region.
However, it’s important to note that accessing Balança Beach is challenging, suitable only for experienced hikers and physically prepared adventurers. Kayak tours are a popular way to reach it — why not embark on one? 😉
8. Canavial Beach
Canavial Beach is situated on the other side of Ponta da Piedade and can be reached via a scenic pedestrian path that descends from the cliff top. Its slightly more challenging access often results in fewer crowds compared to other beaches in the area.
If you seek an untouched and authentic beach experience, Canavial Beach is the perfect choice. While you’re there, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the nearby wooden walkways of Ponta da Piedade.
9. Porto Mós Beach
Porto Mós Beach is renowned for its high and vertical cliffs, very distinctive in aspect from those of Ponta da Piedade. Its sandy shoreline is long in length but narrow in width.
I highly recommend taking a walk to the Atalaia Geodesic Marker in the vicinity. Don’t forget to admire the “Black Rock” formation that separates Porto Mós Beach from Luz Beach. This geological formation is evidence of volcanic activity that occurred in this region of Algarve approximately 70 million years ago.
10. Luz Beach
The final beach on this list of the best beaches in Lagos is Luz Beach. Located at one end of this Algarve municipality, it serves as the starting point for an incredible trail that allows you to explore Lagos coastline all the way to the city itself—the true final stage of the Fishermen’s Trail of the Vicentine Coast.
